Julia Rendleman grew up in southern Illinois. She graduated with a degree in political science from Loyola New Orleans in 2002 and lived in New Orleans until 2004. For four years she worked as a wedding photographer in Chicago before receiving a masters degree in photojournalism from Southern Illinois University in December 2010.
Julia has worked on many photo stories about everyday life in the Midwest and Louisiana. In 2010, she won a Getty Images Student Grant for Editorial Photography for a story about five incarcerated women at Dixon Springs IIP, a military-style prison boot camp. She worked as a staff photographer at the Houma Courier in south Louisiana until May 2012. Currently she is working at the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
